TALES OF INCREDIBLE CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL EXCHANGE IN INDONESIA FROM A FILIPINA LOUISIAN'S PERSPECTIVE

My Teaching Practices
My final teaching demonstration experience at SMANSA was a remarkable and transformative journey. I have been enormously privileged to immerse myself in an unfamiliar educational and cultural environment, which presented numerous opportunities for me to grow as a teacher-in-the-making and as an individual human person.
In this section, you will discover the specific teaching procedures I followed, my time
management strategies, how I organized classroom activities, the classroom
management policies I adopted, and the problem-solving measures
I took while staying and teaching at a
foreign practicum school.
Teaching Procedures
My teaching procedures were built upon a solid foundation of effective pedagogical practices. I recognized the importance of clear learning objectives, which guided me in creating well-structured lessons. I ensured each class had a clear opening, main content, and conclusion. My teaching emphasized active engagement, encouraging students to participate in discussions, ask questions, and collaborate on projects. I employed a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, group activities, and multimedia presentations, to cater to diverse learning styles. Formative assessment was a key component of my teaching, as it allowed me to gauge student understanding and adapt my instruction accordingly.
Organizing activities in a foreign educational setting requires thoughtful consideration. I incorporated a mix of individual and group activities to foster collaboration and independent learning. For example, in my final evaluation class, I organized listening activities, group discussions, reader response tasks, and oral presentation skills. These activities not only enriched students' learning experiences but also promoted exposure to a fresh way of teaching .
Effective time management was essential during my teaching stint at SMANSA. I carefully planned the time allocation for various activities to make the most of my final class. I adhered to a timetable that ensured I covered the teaching plan comprehensively while allowing room for flexibility. I utilized teaching aids and technology to optimize time usage, ensuring students remained engaged and focused. By balancing the need for content coverage and interactive learning, I aimed to make the best use of every minute in the classroom.

Problem-Solving at My Practicum School
Effective classroom management was pivotal to maintaining a conducive learning environment. I established clear classroom rules and expectations, which I communicated to students from the outset. Consistency was key; I applied the policies uniformly and addressed any behavioral issues promptly and constructively. Mutual respect between me and the students was fundamental, and I always encouraged an open-door policy for students to discuss concerns or seek clarification.
Teaching in a new environment often presented unforeseen challenges. Flexibility and adaptability became my allies in addressing these issues. When confronted with challenges such as language barriers or diverse learning needs, I leveraged teamwork. Collaborating with local educators and seeking guidance from experienced colleagues allowed me to devise effective solutions. Problem-solving, in my experience, required both creativity and a willingness to learn from each situation.
