TALES OF INCREDIBLE CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL EXCHANGE IN INDONESIA FROM A FILIPINA LOUISIAN'S PERSPECTIVE

Classroom Management
Classroom management was anchored in a well-defined set of policies and practices. I established a set of classroom rules and expectations at the beginning of the term, which I consistently reinforced. My policies emphasized respect, active participation, and a safe learning environment. I maintained clear and open communication with students, encouraging them to voice concerns and provide feedback. To address discipline issues, I employed a progressive approach, starting with verbal warnings and moving to more severe consequences when necessary. Positive reinforcement was also a crucial component. Recognizing and rewarding students for their achievements and good behavior incentivized positive engagement in the classroom.

Establishing clear guidelines for technology use in the classroom, specifying when and how students can use devices;

Utilizing an appropriate multimedia PowerPoint presentation; and
-
Employing interactive whiteboards for dynamic and engaging lessons.

03
Maintaining an Encouraging Environment
-
Using positive and encouraging language when speaking to my students;
-
Fostering a growth mindset in the classroom by encouraging students to view challenges as opportunities for growth and learning; and

Offering individual support to students who may be struggling or facing personal challenges by being empathetic and understanding.
04
Mastering Students' Names
-
Making an effort to learn my students' names as quickly as possible to demonstrate my interest in them;
-
Paying attention to the correct pronunciation of my students' names as respect for their identities; and
-
Providing personalized feedback to students using their names when discussing their assignments or contributions to class discussions.

05
Moving around the Classroom
-
Using movement to be closer to my students when providing instructions about their activities, offering help, or monitoring their work;
-
Interacting with students individually as I move around to personalize their learning experience; and
-
Identifying potential sources of distraction and using movement to redirect students' attention, such as by standing near a talkative group to encourage quieter conversations.
06
Practicing Interdisciplinary Teaching
-
Developing assessments that measure students' understanding of subjects related to our main topic; and
-
Explaining the interdisciplinary approach to my students, by highlighting the real-world relevance of this method and how it helps them gain a deeper understanding of the topics.

07
Modeling Proper Attitude
-
Consistently exhibiting a positive and respectful attitude towards all students, regardless of their behavior or performance;
-
Using polite and respectful language when interacting with my students, encouraging them to use similar language when addressing their peers and me; and
-
Modeling how to resolve conflicts in a calm and respectful manner, emphasizing compromise and understanding.
